Leader of the Opposition V.S. Achuthanandan has written to Home Minister Ramesh Chennithala demanding immediate slapping of provisions of the Kerala Anti-Social Activities (Prevention) Act (KAAPA) on controversial businessman Mohamed Nisham, who has been charged with the murder of security guard Chandrabose of Thrissur.
In a statement here on Sunday, Mr. Achuthanandan asked the Home Minister to keep the word he and Chief Minister Oommen Chandy had given to Chandrabose’s family to invoke KAAPA in two days, file a charge-sheet before the Fast Track Court in 90 days, appoint a public prosecutor of their choice, and ensure stringent punishment to the accused. The Home Minister and the Chief Minister had also assured the family that a Vigilance investigation would be initiated into the allegation that several criminal cases against Nisham were settled out of court and that action would be taken against police personnel who had tried to save Nisham.
But none of these promised had been kept even a month these were made, the Opposition Leader said.
