Skilful handloom products on show

June 08, 2010 04:46 pm | Updated 04:46 pm IST - Thiruvananthapuram

Traditional handloom techniques and innovations within the industry are the highlights of an ongoing exhibition organised by the Institute of Handloom and Textiles Technology at the Chandrasekharan Nair Stadium here.

Cotton bags, honeycomb thread towels, gold embossed dhotis and colourfully designed textiles are among the products on sale at a handful of stalls representing weaver societies from Kannur and Thiruvananthapuram. One of the attractions at the venue is a side room featuring a series of pastel room arrangements, including a bedroom with tassels, plush beds and curtains, the work of students at the institute. Sandals, lampshades and woven jewellery are also exhibited, along with bed sheets, towels and cotton shirts.
