Six persons, including five occupants of a car, were killed and three injured in two road accidents that occurred near Kallambalam and Vattappara in the district on Saturday evening.

Five persons were killed and three injured when a car going from Kallambalam to Varkala and a private bus coming from the opposite direction collided head-on at President's Mukku in Kallambalam police station limits at 6.15 p.m.

The rural police control said the dead were travelling in the car. They were identified as Shijin, 24, Jobin, 25, Binu, 28, Rakesh, 28, all of Chathanpara, and Johnsy, 25, of Varkala. Rakesh and Binu succumbed to their injuries at medical college hospital around 10 p.m., while the others were brought dead.


In all, there were six persons were in the car. The two others injured in the accident were bus commuters.

The injured have been shifted to medical college hospital.

The bodies of the deceased have been shifted to the mortuary for the post-mortem examination.

Cause unknown

The cause of the accident was not known, the rural police control said.

In the second accident, a 25-year-old pedestrian was killed after he was knocked down by a car at Kanakode, near Vattappara, at 7.15 p.m.

The accident occurred when the youth, Christopher Das, haling from Vattappara was walking along M.C. Road, the rural police control said.

The body has been shifted to the mortuary of medical college hospital.
