: The State Human Rights Commission (SHRC) has sought explanation from the Thiruvananthapuram Revenue Divisional officer who refused to provide a missing certificate to the relatives of a person who went missing in the sea at Kovalam 38 years back. K. Anilumar, a resident of Poojappura, had gone missing in the sea on Novermber 28, 1978. The Vizhinjam police had registered a case and handed over his bicycle and clothes to his relatives. However, when his relatives recently approached the village officer for a missing certificate for paperwork related to the family property, the officer asked for his death certificate.

The relatives approached the Vizhinjam police for the death certificate. But, documents from 1978 were not available there. With no response from the village officer to their application, the relatives approached the State Human Rights Commission. The RDO has been asked to present the explanation at a sitting of the commission to be held at 11 a.m. on October 6.
