Share-taxis, autos for Thiruvananthapuram

November 17, 2014 09:39 am | Updated 09:39 am IST - THIRUVANANTHAPURAM:

The district traffic advisory committee has decided to introduce share taxi and auto services from the Thampanoor railway station to select short-distance routes in the city prior to the International Film Festival of Kerala and the National Games.

The committee, which met on Sunday, has decided to introduce share-taxi and auto services as one of the steps towards minimising traffic congestion during the upcoming events in the city. The services will be operated to the Secretariat, Public Office, Museum, Thycaud Hospital, East Fort, and Vazhuthacaud without causing revenue loss to the Kerala State Road Transport Corporation. The facility would be available during office hours, an official release here said.

The meeting proposed to introduce uniform rates for share-taxi and auto services. While four passengers would be allowed to travel in share-taxis, autos would be permitted to take three passengers in one trip, the release added.

The meeting also decided to ban parking of vehicles from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. between Pulimoodu Junction and East Fort.

Similarly, parking of vehicles would not be allowed from 9 a.m. to 11. 30 a.m. on the stretch from the railway station to Model School Junction and from Nalanchira to Kesavadasapuram. Those having objection to the decision should inform the District Collector before November 22, the release said.
