Several protestors and policemen were injured when a Youth Congress march turned violent in front of the Legislative Assembly on Monday.

The activists, who were complaining against the government's “backdoor recruitment” policy, pelted the police with stones. Assistant Commissioner, Cantonment, Krishnan Nair, was seriously injured in the eye. The police fired tear gas grenades at the protestors, used its water cannon to douse their spirit and then baton charged the small group.

Youth Congress president P.C. Vishnunath, MLA, and M. Liju, vice-president, were among those who sustained injuries. The Opposition has deplored the “unilateral” police action against “peaceful” protestors.
