Send SMS to get vehicle details

The Motor Vehicles Department will make information available to motorists through SMS from Wednesday. This is part of the government's ‘m-governance' project to provide information to citizens ‘anytime anywhere' through mobile technology.

Vehicle details, application status, State Transport Authority (STA) permit application status, allotted registration number of vehicles, vehicle tax, vehicle number booking range and status information will be made available through SMS.

This is in addition to the online service provided through the website of the MVD (www.keralamvd.gov.in).

Transport Minister Jose Thettayi will launch the services at the Transport Commissionerate in Trans Towers. The service is provided with the help of Kerala IT Mission.

Those with BSNL connection should SMS queries to 53725 and those having other connections to 537252 to get the services.

The range and series of vehicle numbers that can be booked on a given date can be known by messaging the two digit office code.

The office code for Thiruvananthapuram is 01, Kollam 02 and for Kanhangad is 60. The status of a reserved number in an office can be known by messaging the number.

The list of services from the MVD and their SMS formats can be obtained by sending MVD Help to 537252.

A sum of Rs.2 will be charged per SMS for BSNL users and Rs.3 for other network users.
