Freedom from the routine is what city-based Western musical choir Crescendo hopes to achieve when they perform at the Panchayat Association Hall on Thursday, when the State celebrates 67th Independence Day.
Usually, groups such as Crescendo perform only during Christmas or Easter season. Through the rest of the year, the city hardly hears of them.
Crescendo hopes to break this routine on Thursday. The group last performed before a large audience two years ago, and wants to make its concerts more frequent.
Crescendo is one of the few collectives here, not affiliated to a Church, that devote themselves to mastering the classical vocal harmonies. Dedicated to delivering four-part harmonies, the choir includes nearly 40 members belonging to CSI churches, Mar Thoma Churches and others.
The members feel they need to keep alive the tradition, as it has largely diminished even in the Anglican Church here and at the other English Churches such as Mateer Memorial Church and Christ Church, Palayam.
