Security to be strengthened at civil station complex

Sanitation drive to clean up Collectorate complex on July 24

July 06, 2016 12:00 am | Updated 07:29 am IST - KOLLAM:

A meeting of officers chaired by District Collector Shainamol at the Collectorate conference hall here on Tuesday gave final touches to measures to augment the security measures at the civil station complex. The decision comes as part of measures in this connection in the wake of the bomb blast at the complex on June 15.

The Collector said that as part of these measures, work on installing CC TV cameras at the complex had already commenced. It had also been decided to clear all the junk vehicles parked on the compound of the complex. It was in one such vehicle that the bomb which exploded was planted.

All waste dumped on the compound would also be removed.

The meeting noted that large numbers of junk furniture and e-waste were lying dumped along the corridors of the civil station building. These would also have to be cleared. The respective department heads had been given directions in the connection, the Collector said. The cleared items would be temporarily dumped at an indentified location along the Link Road.

On July 24, employees at the complex would take part in a sanitation drive to clean up the whole complex. Such a drive would be undertaken by the employees at regular intervals. Branches of trees that had grown and extended close to the building would be pruned.
