SBT opens 1,000th branch

A ‘Gold Point' branch of the State Bank of Travancore (SBT) that started functioning in Palakkad on Saturday is the 1,000 office of the bank in the country, the bank said in a press release.

State Bank group chairman Pratip Chaudhari performed the ‘e-opening' of the branch at a function held at the head office of the bank here.

The new branch, which comes under the Thrissur Zone of the SBT, is its 15 ‘Gold Point' branch. ‘Gold Point' branches are those which handle gold loans exclusively.

Shyamal Acharya, deputy managing director, State Bank of India (SBI), and P. Nandakumaran, managing director, SBT, were present.

Mr. Chaudhari also opened a new administrative office building of the SBI, ‘Sangamam', near the AKG Centre here on Saturday, SBI said in another press release.

He handed over the key of a school bus donated by SBI to the Mother Theresa Day Care Centre for Mentally and Physically Challenged Children.

Mr. Acharya; V. Murali, bank's deputy managing director, and Arun K. Agarwal, general manager, Kerala Circle, attended the function.
