Satnam’s death: CBI probe sought

September 20, 2012 10:17 am | Updated July 01, 2016 06:59 pm IST - THIRUVANANTHAPURAM:

Leader of Opposition V.S. Achuthanandan has called for a CBI investigation into the recent death of Satnam Singh Mann, a Bihari youth, at the government mental hospital here.

In a letter to Chief Minister Oommen Chandy on Wednesday, he said the ongoing police investigation into the case was not effective.

The youth, a seeker according to the head of an ashram he had been in before, had been reportedly beaten up when he became violent at the Amritanandamayi Ashram.

Custody

He was subsequently in police custody, in jail and then at the mental hospital.

Mr. Achuthanandan said the police had taken cases against a few patients and employees of the mental hospital and some doctors had been transferred to other hospitals for their alleged negligence.

The doctors and employees of the hospital had maintained that they were innocent.

“There have been reports stating that Satnam Singh Mann was not a mental patient, but only a seeker. This is an incident involving the brutal killing of a youth who had come to Kerala in search of truth. There is dark mystery in this incident. This is an issue affecting the good name of the State,” Mr. Acbhuthanandan told the Chief Minister.
