The government has chalked out plans to establish a satellite township at Valiathura, Minister for Health V.S. Sivakumar has said.
He was presiding over a function held to lay the foundation stone of the sectoral headquarters of the Border Security Force (BSF) at Muttathara here on Friday.
Mr. Sivakumar said work on a modern sewage treatment plant for the capital city was expected to be completed in two months. The plant was coming up in the area adjoining the plot earmarked for the BSF. Plans were afoot to establish a fishing net factory at Valiathura, he said. “The Cooperative Academy for Professional Education (CAPE) is working on a project to set up an engineering college in the area, while another plot has been allotted to the Indian Air Force to construct a residential complex. Indira Gandhi National Open University is also acquiring land at Valiathura to set up its regional office,” he said. The Minister said new establishments would come up in the 44 acres neighbouring the sewage treatment plant. The land was earlier used to cultivate fodder. He said efforts were on to provide infrastructure for the upcoming satellite township. “KSEB will soon be allotted land to construct an 11-kV substation, and moves are on to extend the drinking water pipe network from Veli,” he said.
