The two-day celebrations on the occasion of SAT Hospital day began here on Sunday. The hospital, which is in its diamond jubilee year, is the first and the oldest hospital for women and children in the State

A get-together of the hospital staff was organised on the day, which was inaugurated by the head of the ruling family of erstwhile Travancore, Uthradom Tirunal Marthanda Varma, who recollected that the hospital had been set up by the former ruling family in memory of his nephew Prince Sree Avittam Tirunal who had died at the age of eight years of rheumatic heart disease.

“SAT Hospital stands for specialised affectionate, affordable treatment also, the primary reason for which the hospital was set up,” Marthanda Varma said.

A session on stress management was also held on the day for the hospital staff. The former superintendents of the hospital were honoured on the occasion. Reports on maternal and child care activities taken up in the past one year were presented.

On Monday, Health Minister Adoor Prakash will inaugurate the new computerisation system installed at the hospital.
