: The State government has released Rs.700 crore for home delivery of five categories of social security pensions through the District Cooperative Banks, Primary Agriculture Cooperative Credit Societies and other credit cooperatives in the State for August and advance for September, including arrears.

Limit of Rs.15,000

But in view of the confusion over fixing the period for calculating pension arrears, the State government has limited the total payment due to a beneficiary to a maximum of Rs.15,000 for Onam payment. The rest of the amount, if any, will be paid after verification.

This limit on payment has been fixed since it was found that in many cases, local bodies have sanctioned arrears with retrospective effect ranging from one year to 10 years.

Information Kerala Mission, which is handling the software, has been asked to rework the liability.
