The National Rural Health Mission (NRHM) has sanctioned Rs.12 crore to the district panchayat to construct new blocks at the Neyyattinkara taluk hospital.

Minister for Health V.S. Sivakumar would lay the foundation for the new blocks on October 25, district panchayat president Ansajitha Ressal said at the monthly general committee meeting of the panchayat on Tuesday. The new facility would house specialty centres and operation theatres, she said.

The meeting approved several decisions taken by the standing committees for Welfare and Works. It was decided to seek the government’s administrative sanction to shortlist agencies to train women from the Scheduled Caste community in driving autorickshaws. The panchayat would disburse Rs.50,000 as subsidy to 120 women from the community for buying autorickshaws. Grama sabhas would be asked to select beneficiaries for the project.

A sum of Rs.37.50 lakh had been set aside in this year’s budget for implementing the scheme, chairperson of standing committee for Welfare S. Ushakumari said.

The meeting approved the standing committee for Work’s decision requesting Executive Engineer, Local Self Government Department, to impose fine on contractors who delayed projects. It sanctioned a sum of Rs.25 lakh for the construction of a multi-purpose stadium at Government Higher Secondary School, Neduveli.

Chairman of standing committee for Works Anad Jayan told the committee that tendering process for the works would be completed before October 25. On October 28, a meeting of elected representatives and officials in the Works wing would be convened to discuss their implementation.
