July 21, 2016 12:00 am | Updated 06:00 am IST - THIRUVANANTHAPURAM:

All roads under the Public Works Department in various districts will be made motorable before the mandalam - Makaravilaku season in Sabarimala beginning on November 14.

Minister for Public Works G. Sudhakaran, who chaired a meeting here on Wednesday, said officials had been asked to prepare estimate of 25 roads leading to the hill temple before July 27 and submit it for Cabinet clearance. The officials had been asked to clear tender formalities before August 15 and complete the works by October 15. To ensure that there was no tender excess, five teams had been set up under the District Collector and the Superintending Engineer to look into the works and estimate. Social audit would be implemented from the preliminary stage and quality would be ensured in the works. In addition to the 25 roads identified, repair works of another 500 roads would be taken up subject to the availability of funds. The Minister also gave directions to complete the repairs of the roads under the KSTP and NH wing.
