Inmates at the Central Prison, Poojappura, here on Saturday harvested nearly 500 kg of organically grown corn cultivated in two acres of land inside the walls of the 125-year-old sprawling prison complex.
Superintendent, Central Prison, B. Pradeep supervised the harvest. Kerala Agriculture University experts Swaroop John and Albert Jacob were present. Mr. Pradeep said the State Horticultural Mission purchased the bulk of the corn. The rest would be used in the prison's kitchen. The remaining would be powdered and kept for future use.
