Swami Vivekananda’s visit to the capital city and his stay here for nine days will be recreated on its 125th anniversary.

Titled ‘Vivekananda Vijayam — Unarunna Bharatham Shreshta Bharatham’, the programme is being jointly organised by Aurobindo Cultural Society, Bharatheeya Vichara Kendram and Vivekananda Study Council.

As part of his pilgrimage, Swami Vivekananda reached the Vallakadavu boat jetty, near Chakka here.

The social reformer started his nine-day visit to the capital from here, says P. Asok Kumar, convener, Vivekananda Ratha Yatra. This visit prompted Swamiji to raise his voice against the discrimination and social inequality prevailing in Kerala.

The journey was the precursor to his visit to Kanyakumari where he spent three nights on the rock, which was later known by his name, and his decision to participate in the Parliament of the World’s Religions, Mr. Kumar says.

In memory of the visit, a youth dressed as Vivekananda will arrive in a boat at Vallakadavu at 4 p.m. on December 13.

He will be received by the capital’s most senior citizen K. Ayyappan on a specially made Vivekananda chariot, Mr. Kumar said.

The chariot, accompanied by two-wheelers led by activists of the Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha, Mahila Morcha, Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) and Bala Gokulam, will proceed to the Tennis Club at Kowdiar after receiving felicitations on the way at Eenchakkal junction, Kottaikkakam, West Nada, Vazhapally junction, Theerthapada Mandapam, Corporation office road and Vellayambalam.
