Even as the City police are preparing a database of migrant labourers, a native of Bihar, who allegedly lured a woman from here to Haryana and sexually abused her, has been arrested from Haryana by the Pettah police.
C.S. Suresh Kumar, Circle Inspector, Pettah, said the accused, Rahul Kumar Pande, 24, of Madhubani district in Bihar, had befriended an employee of a private hospital here, introducing himself as a Punjabi. He then took her to Haryana, where he sexually abused her for several days while accommodating her in a room of a house rented out to migrant labourers there.
The woman managed to escape from there three weeks ago. She lodged a complaint with the Pettah police, following which a team from here set out in search of Pande. The team, led by Mr. Suresh Kumar, and comprising Pettah sub-inspector R. Jayakumar and others, traced Pande to a colony near which he had lodged the woman earlier. The team arrested him on May 23 with the help of the local police. He was produced before a court there and brought to Thiruvananthapuram.
