Honour for Akkitham Narayanan

Painter Akkitham Narayanan has been chosen for the Raja Ravi Varma Award for 2015, a press note issued here said.

He was chosen for the award for his unique contributions to modern painting. The award consists of a cash prize of Rs.1 lakh, a citation, and a plaque. Born in 1939, Mr. Narayanan studied at the Madras College of Arts and Craft under K.C.S. Panikkar and at the L’ecole de beaux Arts, Paris. He arrived at his own unique style of painting after an artistic journey of four decades based on the tantric tradition.

In his canvas Mr. Narayanan was able to provide unique inter-pretations for many symbols of myth and religion, the press note said. He is the recipient of many awards including the K.C.S. Panikkar Award and the French International Festival of Painting Award. Mr. Narayanan was selected for the award by a committee chaired by the chairman of the Kerala Lalithakala Akademi, Kattoor Narayana Pilllai, the press note added.
