Railways have decided to issue permits to 300 autorickshaws operating from the pre-paid facility on the Thiruvananthapuram Central railway station premises.

The permits will be issued from November 10 on payment of the permit/licence fee of ₹1,250 for six months.

The permit fee can be remitted as quarterly instalments.

Railways will issue identity cards to drivers of these vehicles and stickers for the autorickhaws with details of complaint helpline number.

A decision to this effect was taken at a meeting held by Senior Divisional Commercial Manager V.C. Sudheesh with representatives of the CITU, INTUC, AITUC, and BMS at the Divisional Railway Manager’s office here on Tuesday.

The permit fee was reduced from ₹1,800 following a request by the trade unions, according to Mr. Sudheesh.

Permits to more autorickshaws will be considered after consultations and based on the requirements of the passengers.
