The Thiruvananthapuram Railway Division has opened a creche for children of Railway employees and the general public.

To be managed by the Southern Railway Women's Welfare Organisation (SRWWO) of the Thiruvananthapuram Railway Division, the creche was inaugurated at the Railway Colony, Anver Gardens, Poojappura on Monday.

Speaking on the occasion, Divisional Railway Manager Rajiv Dutt Sharma said the creche had been built at a cost of Rs.6 lakh on the directive of the Railway Board.

He urged parents living in the area to make use of the facility.

As the creche is located in a secluded place away from the main road, there is ample safety for the children there. The creche will be of immense help for working women.

It will function from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.

An admission fee of Rs.2,000 will be charged, of which Rs.500 will be refunded when the child leaves the centre. The monthly fee is Rs.750. Once in six months, the children will be given a free medical check-up. The SRWWO is also running a nursery school named Jingle Bells Nursery School.

Additional Divisional Railway Manager V. Rajeeven welcomed the gathering.

Devika Rajeevan, vice-president, SRWWO, and Senior Divisional Personnel officer P.G. Pillai spoke.

Officers, staff and members of the SRWWO also participated in the function.
