Railways open control room

The Railways have made elaborate arrangements to ensure the safety of women who arrive on trains to offer Pongala at Attukal on Tuesday.

A special security control room of the Railways will function round the clock in Thiruvananthapuram on Monday and Tuesday in connection with the Pongala festival. The control room can be contacted on phone 0471-2115224. Passengers can also seek help from the Railway Protection Force (RPF) Rail alert number 9995040000.

The Railways have mobilised additional 400 RPF personnel, including 115 women constables. They will be under the control of a RPF Commissioner who will be assisted by four Assistant Commissioners and a team 16 Circle Inspectors and 55 Sub-Inspectors. Additional Bomb Detection Squad and Dog Squad have been mobilized. Twenty-four surveillance cameras have been installed to monitor the nook and cranny of the railway station and its premises..

The entire stretch from Nagercoil to Kayamkulam will be monitored by RPF personnel and all trains will have RPF escorts.
