The Intelligence wing of the State Drugs Control Department conducted State-wide raids on several licensed drug outlets in all districts on Monday as part of the stringent campaign launched by the department to ensure that there were no violations of the Drugs and Cosmetics Act 1940 and the State Rules 1945.

The Drugs Control officials visited about 20 licensed drugs outlets of retailers and wholesalers spread across all districts. While no prosecution procedures have been reported so far, several violations of the provisions of the Drugs and Cosmetics Act, including improper storage conditions of drugs, non-maintenance of sale and purchase records, lack of supervision by qualified and competent persons, sale of Schedule H drugs without proper purchase records had been found, Drugs Control officials said.

Departmental action, including suspension of licences would be initiated against offenders based on the gravity of the violations, they added.
