The City Corporation resumed its crackdown on illegal parking lots in cinema theatres, hospitals and other commercial establishments on Friday.

The raids started from the SL Theatres, but the Revenue officials were welcomed by locked gates.

The gates were opened after intervention from Standing Committee chairpersons Palayam Rajan and V.S. Padmakumar. A notice was served directing the owners to desist from collecting parking fee.

“As per the Kerala Municipal Building Rules, for every 15 seats in the theatre, one parking area needs to be provided. For hospitals, this becomes one parking area for 75 square metre carpet area,” said Mr. Padmakumar.

Notices were served on the Kairali, Sree Kumar and Dhanya theatre complexes and KIMS, Cosmo and SUT hospitals.
