Forest officials seized python skin and cooked meat from the Vlavatty settlement colony in the Neyyar wildlife sanctuary here on Friday. Seven persons were arrested for violating the Wildlife Protection Act, 1972, as python is included in Schedule I of the Act.

Acting on a tip-off received by the Forest Intelligence Cell, a team led by Divya S. Rose, Range Officer, Neyyar, raided the house of one Suresh in the settlement colony. The python skin and cooked meat were seized, along with a jeep and a motorcycle used by the accused.

The python was killed for medicinal purposes, sources said, adding that three more persons will be nabbed soon.
