The Communist Party of India (CPI) district council and the Democratic Youth Federation of India (DYFI) have protested against the newly revised OP ticket rates in government hospitals. DYFI activists will stage marches to district and taluk hospitals across the State on Monday in protest against the hike in rates.

The government had revised the OP tickets rates in government hospitals last week, making it free for BPL patients, while Rs.5 would have to be paid by patients in the APL category.

In separate statements, the CPI and the DYFI said healthcare expenses should be borne totally by the government and that the OP ticket rates were hiked to help private hospitals. The Kerala Mahila Sangham also protested against the rate hike.
