The school is in the eye of a storm over the Trivandrum Development Authority (TRIDA)’s plan to take over a part of its land for the development of the East Fort area.

June 19, 2014 12:39 pm | Updated 12:40 pm IST - Thiruvananthapuram:

Leader of the Opposition V.S. Achuthanandan has said that the Attakulangara Central High School should be protected and alternative sites should be found for the proposed bus bay and shopping complexes.

He was speaking after a visit to the school on Wednesday. The school is in the eye of a storm over the Trivandrum Development Authority (TRIDA)’s plan to take over a part of its land for the development of the East Fort area.

Mr. Achuthanandan said the school should be upgraded to higher secondary level to attract more students. The school authorities and the PTA had been putting forth the request since 2004.

The Attakulangara School Samrakshana Samithi and the NGO Treewalk had earlier submitted memoranda to Mr. Achuthanandan to support the efforts to save the school.
