Procedures for granting relief to be eased

The government will ease the procedures in releasing assistance from the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund, Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan has said.

Replying to a submission of V.D. Satheesan on the need for clearing arrears from the fund in the Assembly on Monday, Mr.Vijayan said the new government had disbursed Rs.36.58 crore from the fund.A decision had been made for releasing Rs.7.20 crore against 9,000 applicants. Procedures had been simplified to overcome the delay in providing assistance to the applicants, he said.

Replying to a submission of V.S. Achuthanandan on the previous government’s decision to lease out 5.13 acres at Kadavanthra in Kochi to Bhima Jewellery, Industries Minister E.P. Jayarajan said the new government had cancelled the agreement struck between the company and the Small Industries Development Corporation and returned the Rs.50 lakh advance the corporation had taken from the former. — Special Correspondent
