The State committee of the Students Federation of India (SFI) has called for an investigation to crack down on the “fake degree certificates” racket. Legal action must be taken against those individuals found to have given lakhs of rupees to obtain false certificates, said State committee President Shiju Khan.
In a press release issued in Thiruvananthapuram on Wednesday, the SFI alleged that there had been instances where even those who had not enrolled themselves in the University of Kerala obtaining degrees — including for engineering courses. Private agencies in collusion with certain university officials were involved in this, the SFI claimed, adding that they had evidence of cases where the university websites being amended to display false information.
These fraud certificate-holders went on to attempt examinations such as the Public Service Commission tests.
The students’ organisation complained that as the practice became widespread, it deprived worthy candidates of the right opportunities, it added.
