Probe on into death of DD staffer

December 06, 2011 12:01 pm | Updated 12:01 pm IST - Thiruvananthapuram:

The city police have launched an accident case investigation into the death of M.R. Pradeep Kumar, an employee of the Doordarshan Kendra, near Peroorkada, on Saturday night.

A senior official said the police would primarily investigate the allegation that Pradeep Kumar, who was riding a motorbike, sustained fatal injuries when a member of a mobile patrol vehicle pulled him down from his moving vehicle.

He said there were conflicting versions to the incident. A local trader, who was arrested a few days earlier on the charge of drunken driving, had testified that he had seen policemen pull Pradeep Kumar from the motorbike. The police version was that another motorbike had knocked down Pradeep Kumar's two wheeler and sped away. He said the police would take action, if necessary, on the basis of the probe report.
