Probe on into assault of women

April 13, 2010 03:25 pm | Updated 03:25 pm IST - Thiruvananthapuram:

The city police are inquiring into an allegation that a woman was assaulted inside the premises of an exclusive club on Saturday night.

A senior police official said the woman had arrived at the club to attend a function hosted by a private bank.

A member of the club urged the woman to accompany him on his scooter. He said the man repeatedly assaulted the woman when she rejected his advances.

The police said the woman sought refuge inside the club. A few persons who were present there saved the woman from the man's wrath and sent her off in an autorickshaw.

Two officers from the city police special branch visited the club on Monday and questioned its elected office-bearers.

The police said the office-bearers told them that they had issued notice to the suspect on the charges of misbehaving with a woman and lowering the dignity of the club.

The office-bearers reported the incident to the Museum police on Monday.

Deputy Commissioner of Police, Law and Order, C.H. Nagaraju said the police were trying to trace the woman.

The police were yet to register a case.
