Prisoner found hanging dies in hospital

Saifuddin, 45, of Mangalapuram, was found hanging in his cell at the Poojappura Central Prison here on Thursday.

The Poojappura police, quoting Prison officials, said he was rushed to the Medical College Hospital, Thiruvananthapuram, where he died around 4.30 p.m.

Saifuddin was sentenced to seven years imprisonment in 2009 in connection with the dowry death of his wife, police sources said.

The body was shifted to the hospital mortuary and his relatives had been informed, the police said.

Woman dead

Lathakumari, 44, of Karakkamandapam, who fell off the two-wheeler ridden by her husband after a bus rammed their vehicle, succumbed to her injuries at the Medical College Hospital, Thiruvananthapuram, on Thursday. She was on her way to the school where she worked as a librarian.

Her husband, Chandrasenan, is an RMS employee. The bus was from the depot and the accident occurred at 7.30 a.m.
