The Overbridge-Thampanoor stretch is all set to become a six-lane carriageway with works on it slated to be completed in 15 days.
Work on the star culvert near the Ponnara Sreedhar Park leading to the Pazhavangadi Canal is over and the TRDCL, the concessionaire of CRIP, has given the first layer of bitumen coat for the road near the roundabout, easing traffic to a big extent. Construction of footpaths is in full swing. Medians of one to two metre width are already in place, making it impossible for autorickshaws to take U-turns, thereby causing traffic blocks.
The temporary bus-stops of the KSRTC on the stretch now need to be shifted. The pre-paid autorickshaw stand near the Indian Coffee House too will be shifted to the KSRTC premises for the time being.
Solar-powered signal“We have expedited the work and it is in the final stages. We hope to throw open the 600-metre-long, 24-metre-wide carriageway this month itself,” TRDCL project director Anil Kumar Pandala said. The TRDCL now has to install solar-powered traffic signals near Hotel Chaithram to ensure the right turn of KSRTC buses into the terminal. The traffic signal near RMS, where three roads meet, is not yet included in the project.
Work on the seven-metre culvert through the Railway premises will begin late on Monday. The work is to prevent water-clogging near the old Sathram on the Railway premises. The work is expected to be completed in 15 days.
By then, work on reconstructing the canal between the Coffee House and Hotel Chaithram too will be completed. With the Coffee House building situated close to the canal, work, which is part of flood mitigation measures in Thampanoor, is being carried out carefully.
Box type culverts will be placed on this stretch of canal to create a walkway and place to relax for the public.
