The preventive and control measures taken by the district health administration at Puthiyathura in Pulluvila in Thiruvananthapuram, where one case of cholera had been confirmed earlier, has begun to show results, with no fresh cases of diarrhoea being reported in the region.

Of the four persons — three children and one adult — who had shown symptoms of cholera, only one case has been confirmed so far.

While two children have recovered, the others who are being treated at Pulluvila Community Health Centre are making a fast recovery.

All families in Puthiyathura were supplied potable water in tanker lorries on Monday by Revenue officials, on a directive of the Revenue Minister.

The Minister directed the District Collector to take steps to clean the stagnant canal in the locality.

A team of senior health officials visited the houses and schools at Puthiyathura to create awareness of primary prevention of diarrhoeal diseases.

Health workers and ASHA workers have also been making house visits to monitor that the precautionary measures.
