President Pranab Mukherjee is scheduled to arrive in the city at 6.45 p.m. on October 29 on his first visit to the State.
Kerala Governor H.R. Bhardwaj and a high-level official delegation led by Chief Secretary K. Jayakumar will receive the President at the airport here. The Air Officer Commanding-in-Chief of the Southern Air Command and the chief of the Pangode Military Station will be present. Mr. Bhardwaj will host a special reception and dinner for Mr. Mukherjee. A cavalcade of official vehicles will escort the President’s convoy from the airport to the Raj Bhavan where he will spend the night.
On October 30, the President will attend a host of public functions at the University Senate Hall, Legislative Assembly Complex, and Loyola Indoor stadium. Traffic will be restricted along the routes his convoy is expected to take. Over 1,500 policemen have been deployed. The bomb squad inspected several times the venues of the functions he is scheduled to attend. The public have been requested not to bring bags, mobile phones, etc. to the venues.
The police said they had made special arrangements to allow ambulances carrying patients requiring emergency treatment to move through routes where traffic restrictions are in place.
