Polling booths will be opened in the district on April 5 and April 10 to enable government employees deployed for election duty to cast their postal ballots for the April 10 elections in advance, District Collector Biju Prabhakar, who is also the District Election Officer, has said.
Booths will be opened at the District Collectorate; Government College, Attingal; Government College, Nedumangad; Boys High School, Neyyattinkara; and Boys High School, Nedumangad. Those who have received the postal ballots can walk into any of the booths on April 5, which will be open from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., and cast their votes. Gazetted officers will be posted in the booths for certifying the declaration, Mr. Prabhakar said in a release.
On April 9, the facility will be available at the polling equipment distribution centres from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Those who wanted to cast the postal ballots should submit applications to the District Election Officer before April 2. This is the first time that the Election Commission is setting up polling booths so that employees deputed for poll duty can cast the postal ballots, the release said.
