Four activists and a camera man of a media organisation were injured on Tuesday when the police burst teargas shells and used water cannons at a Secretariat march organised by the Left Democratic Youth Front (LDYF), an umbrella youth organisation affiliated to left parties. The front was demanding the resignation of Chief Minister Oommen Chandy for his alleged involvement in the solar panel scam. The injured persons were admitted to the Medical College and General Hospital for treatment for asphyxiation. The protesters took out a rally from Palayam to the Secretariat raising slogans against the Chief Minister for trying to cover up the solar scam. As they tried to break the barricades, police trained water cannons on them and fired two rounds of teargas shells to disperse the agitated youth activists.

The protesters dispersed for a while from the vicinity of the Secretariat but re-grouped again and continued with their protest for about 30 minutes. Leaders of the constituents of LDYF, including Democratic Youth Federation of India, All India Youth Federation, Revolutionary Youth Front, Nationalist Youth Congress, and Yuva Janata Dal, addressed the march.
