Police to collect their band of friends

April 14, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 07:41 am IST - THIRUVANANTHAPURAM:

The City police on Tuesday will set rolling a friendship initiative with a difference.

The initiative, titled ‘Friends of Police,’ will begin with honouring people who help others in times of need.

The scheme will be extended to each police station in the city, where a list of at least 10 such people, without any crime records against their name, will be prepared.

Those being honoured on Tuesday, who will be then enlisted as Friends of Police in police stations, will include people donating blood to cancer patients at the Regional Cancer Centre; people who help accident victims, either by taking them to hospital, or helping them financially or by donating blood; people who provide caregivers and attendants in city hospitals with food and so on.

Two academicians who have made invaluable contributions to the Police Training College – George Kottarathil and Cicily Thomson – too will be among those to be honoured by Home Minister Ramesh Chennithala at 9.30 a.m. at the Traffic Police Station Hall, Pattom.

Objective

Five policemen who regularly donate blood to RCC patients too will be felicitated.

Zachariah George, DCP (Law and Order), said the objective of the initiative was to acknowledge those who do several little acts of kindness, but are never recognised for the same.

Slogan

The function, which will have the slogan ‘Sanmanassukalku Oru Salute’ (A Salute to Good Hearts), is part of the community policing initiative of the City police, under its ‘Our Responsibility to Society’ component.

“We have planned it as a ‘Vishu kaineettam’ from the City police to the good people of our city,” Mr. George said.
