Police thwart theft attempt at bus terminal

The Thampanoor police on Monday arrested a Tamil Nadu native for alleged theft from the KSRTC bus terminal at Thampanoor.

The accused has been identified as Rajendran alias Raju of Thovalai in Kanyakumari. He allegedy snatched the wallet of one Mani, a passenger who was waiting to board a bus to Kasaragod. When the accused attempted to flee from the spot, he was chased by a few police personnel who were on duty at the bus terminal and was soon caught.

According to Thampanoor Inspector D.K. Prithewiraj, the accused allegedly confessed that he had been stealing the belongings of passengers from the Thampanoor Central railway station, KSRTC bus terminal and the Nagercoil railway station. The accused has also been involved in cases that have been registered in various police stations in Nagercoil and Kanyakumari districts. He was remanded to judicial custody after being produced at a local court.

In light of the incident, the police have intensified surveillance in the area by deploying officers in mufti.
