A team led by City Police Commissioner H. Venkatesh and Assistant Commissioner (Cantonment) V. Suresh Kumar on Sunday began investigation into the complaint lodged by the Legislative Assembly Secretary on the damage caused inside the House during the Budget session on Friday.
The team, which prepared a ‘mahassar,’ the document detailing the damage at the scene of occurrence, collected samples of scientific evidence, including computer disks and DVDs with visual recordings of the events, which are to be produced in court.
The examination of witnesses, along with the recording of their statements, which is likely to include all those who were present in the House during Friday’s episodes, is scheduled to begin on Monday, Mr. Suresh Kumar said. The preliminary round of investigations included discussions with the Assembly staff.
“We have just started the investigation based on the FIR registered at the Museum police station on Friday, after the complaint was lodged by the Assembly Secretary. The accused will be named only at a later stage. We aim to complete the probe in an expeditious manner,” Mr. Venkatesh said.
The Museum police on Sunday registered a case after two unidentified men on a motorbike hurled stones at the residence of Unwin J. Antony, Chief Marshal of the Watch & Ward of the Assembly, at Pushpa Nagar, near PMG Junction. The incident around 1.30 p.m. left the windows of Mr. Antony’s car damaged.
“We believe it could be related to the incidents in the Assembly. A probe is on and we are examining CCTV visuals from the area,” Mr. Venkatesh said.
The Museum police are also in the process of tracking down 15 persons, believed to be behind the attack on S. Ajeetha Begum, Deputy Commissioner (Law and Order), and Sheen Tharayil, Circle Inspector (Medical College), during Friday’s violence outside the Assembly. Three persons were arrested on Friday itself.
