The Communist Marxist Party has urged the Central government to withdraw the power given to oil companies to decide on the price of petroleum products.
CMP secretary and Planning Board member C.P. John, registering his party's protest against the hike in petroleum prices, said the repeated hike in prices, which came to Rs.12 in the last one year, could not be justified at any cost. Mr. John wanted a review of the policy that in effect helped the oil companies make profits and put a huge burden on the common man. The practice of frequent hike in prices at a time when the world crude prices were stable cannot be accepted.
