People assemble at Murinjapalam where a 700-mm water supply line burst on Thursday night.

A burst at Murinjapalam in the 700-mm water supply line of the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), which carries water from Vellayambalam to Veli, caused mild flooding in the area on Thursday.

This pipe was meant to be charged for commissioning later this week, Kerala Water Authority (KWA) officials said.

There would no disruption in the supply of water in the city as the pipeline was yet to be connected to the rest of the network. A repair team which was on the spot at Murinjapalam told The Hindu that the line would be commissioned soon after the repair was completed.
