Parties trade allegations

Political parties levelled charges against each other on Sunday in the aftermath of the murder of a RSS worker in Sreekaryam.

BJP district president S. Suresh accused the CPI (M) of having masterminded the attack. He also likened the incident to the cold-blooded murder of Revolutionary Marxist Party (RMP) leader T.P. Chandrasekharan.

“The CPI (M) is attempting to unleash violence as they have been doing in Kannur. Besides having orchestrated the attack, the accused persons were provided refuge by CPI(M) workers. The roles played by Anavoor Nagappan and Kadakampally Surendran in the incident must also be probed,” he demanded.

Dismissing the allegations, CPI (M) district secretary Anavoor Nagappan claimed that the incident was the fallout of a personal enmity that existed in the region. It was only two weeks ago that a person was seriously injured after two families were engaged in an altercation, he said. The CPI (M) leader also accused the BJP of unleashing violence in various parts of the district under the pretext of the hartal.

On the other hand, Congress leader K. Muraleedharan, MLA, and District Congress Committee president Neyyattinkara Sanal lashed out at the CPI (M) and BJP for attempting to create unrest, particularly in the State capital, which has been witnessing a spate of political violence in the recent past.

They also held the Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan for being responsible for the situation. They also alleged that the BJP attempted to divert public attention from the medical college bribery scam by unleashing violence.
