Action will be taken under the Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Act, 2015, against parents who do not allow their children to be administered vaccinations.
This was decided by the District Child Protection Monitoring Committee at a meeting at the district panchayat conference hall here recently. District panchayat vice president Shylaja Begum presided.
In the wake of diphtheria and other deadly illnesses being reported in the State, the Health Department has reported 17 cases where children have not been given any vaccination and 315 cases where these have been given only in part.
The committee said vaccinations were the right of children and it was the responsibility of the government to ensure that each child received it. The meeting also decided to issue directions to the Station House Officers (SHOs) concerned to register cases against erring parents.
It was decided to hold workshops at block, municipality, and Corporation levels and formulate action plans to prevent illegal adoptions and check cases under Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act, 2012. Funds for this will be provided by the District Child Protection Unit that functions under the Social Justice Department.
To ensure the services of Childline in the hilly belt, the District Child Protection Unit will write to the Childline India Foundation seeking a centre in the eastern parts of the district.
The meeting decided to set up cyber clubs in schools in rural areas. Such clubs are functional in schools in the city limits under the supervision of the Home Department. Groups of youth who want to do voluntary work will be formed across the district.
Reports were presented by various wings of the government on activities taken up in the past three months and those to be implemented in future.
