Hundreds of school students participated in the Children's Day celebrations held here on Monday.
Attired in colourful dresses, they participated in a pageant that began from SMV school and ended at University College in the afternoon.
Children's president Sissy John presided over the meeting. Children's Prime Minister Gowri Krishnadas and Children's Speaker A.R. Ardra spoke.
They presented prizes to the best contingents in the pageant and the parade.
Earlier, Social Welfare Minister M.K. Muneer delivered the Children's Day message at a meeting at SMV school.
At the Child Welfare Council office, Mayor K. Chandrika released the Children's Day stamp published by the council with government permission.
A painting by K. Rahul, a class 5 student of Government Vocational Higher Secondary School, Balussery, Kozhikode, was selected from 7,000 entries for the stamp.
The Mayor presented Rahul with a cash prize and a certificate, and presented his school with a rolling trophy. Chief Post Master-General Sobha Koshy released this year Children's Day stamp. Social Welfare Department Director B.N. Jithendran and District Child Welfare Council secretary Alanthara G. Krishna Pillai were present.
