Malayalam film Mahesinte Prathikaaram and Kolapatti Daya have bagged the 25th Padmarajan awards instituted by the Padmarajan Memorial Trust for the best film and the best short story respectively.
Mahesinte Prathikaaram , written by Shyam Pushkaran and directed by Dileesh Pothan, and which captures the idyllic setting of Idukki in a realistic way, came in for the jury’s praise for its naturalism and its ability to evoke a range of emotions in the audience. The jury comprised filmmakers T.K. Rajeev Kumar and Salim Ahamed and Madhupal and producer Gandhimathi Balan.
Kolapatti Daya , written by G.R. Indugopan, exposes the grim reality in rural Tamil Nadu wherein the aged are murdered by their relatives as the expenses for their maintenance go up.
The winner was selected by a jury comprising writer and former Chief Secretary C.P. Nair, literary scholar Sudha Warrier, Padmarajan’s wife and writer K.Y. Radha Lakshmi and B. Babu Prasad.
The awards, instituted by the Padmarajan Memorial Trust in memory of the late filmmaker, would be conferred on the winners at a function here on May 23, Mr. Prasad told a news conference here on Monday.
