Own DPR to manage waste

Health and engineering wings hard at work over two months

The health and engineering wings of the city Corporation have shown that they can do a few things on their own by jointly preparing a Detailed Project Report (DPR) under the Swachh Bharat Mission (Urban) for waste management in the city area.

Staff of the health and engineering wings got down to work when it became apparent that the Corporation would have to cough up ₹15 lakh if the work were to be done by an outside agency. When the Corporation floated tenders for the work from recognised agencies, the lowest quote it had received was for that sum.

However, it later became evident that the agency in question did not have the requisite experience in the area of decentralised waste management.

That was when the health and engineering wings decided to try their hand at preparation of a DPR on their own.

Printing cost only

Over the past two months, the two wings have been hard at work preparing the project report.

And, when the work was done, the Corporation authorities found that they had to meet only the printing cost for the project that was estimated to cost ₹33.84 crore.

The project aims at completing the ongoing decentralised waste management programme of the city Corporation and modernisation of the process.

The DPR has now been submitted to the Suchitwa Mission for its approval.
