An inquiry should be ordered if the government suspects sabotage in the simultaneous bursts on the pipeline of the Kerala Water Authority from Aruvikkara to the city on February 25, Leader of the Opposition V.S. Achuthanandan has said.
With KWA officials themselves airing suspicions, the government should conduct a thorough probe and bring the culprits to book, he said while inaugurating an indefinite hunger strike demanding restoration of water supply in the city by Kerala Congress leaders George Sebastian and Satheesh Kumar at the Devaswom Board junction here on Sunday.
‘Regular affair’
Mr. Achuthanandan said the people in the city had been on tenterhooks for over a week now, with the pipe bursting regularly and disruptions in water supply testing their patience frequently.
Adequate water was not available even for day-to-day activities and drinking water shortage was severe in most parts of the city, he said.
He said the State should take steps to end the crisis. In a separate statement issued later, Mr. Achuthanandan demanded a high-level probe into the regular pipe-bursts in the city.
The situation was such that the shortage of water was affecting even surgeries in city hospitals, he said.
