Opposition seeks Health Minister’s resignation

Says failed pre-monsoon clean drive led to fever situation

June 27, 2017 11:30 pm | Updated 11:30 pm IST - Thiruvananthapuram

Leader of the Opposition Ramesh Chennithala on Tuesday demanded the resignation of Health Minister K.K. Shylaja holding her responsible for the current bout of fever and spread of water-borne diseases across the State.

He wanted the State government to ask the Centre to send a team of medical experts to examine the reasons for the spread of various diseases.

Addressing a press conference here, Mr. Chennithala said the Indian Medical Association had warned the State government about the imminent contagion, but the Health Minister chose to look the other way.

He alleged that the Health Minister’s approach smacked of irresponsibility, considering the fact that over 200 people had reportedly died in the current fever bout.
